Emergency Supplies - Food Disaster Preparedness Packages

First, I would like to express my appreciation for the availability of various disaster preparedness packages to order online. These efforts naturally contribute to ensuring that people can be well taken care of in difficult times.

Thank you very much!

But when I imagine that these certainly very appealing and presumably tasty dishes are offered for, for example, 30 days or longer, and we experience a prolonged blackout where not only the power supply has collapsed but also the water supply, then I would have a problem.

Unfortunately, the offered foods contain many allergens that many people are affected by: soy, sesame, mustard, celery, gluten, rye flour, wheat flour, whole wheat flour, lactose, almonds, whole egg, wheat semolina ...

And then I immediately think about the fact that in emergency situations we only have a small camping bio-toilet available for an extended period and wonder if the offered dishes are really so optimally digestible.

In a disaster situation, people are already under significant emotional stress, which could further increase the likelihood of digestive problems. Therefore, it is all the more important that the offered meals are not only easily digestible but also have calming and stomach-friendly properties. Gentle, well-tolerated foods could help alleviate stress symptoms and promote people's well-being.

Especially people with Long Covid or ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) often have sensitive digestive systems and poorly functioning gut microbiomes, with many intolerances and allergies. Many also react sensitively to gluten and spices. These vulnerable target groups might particularly rely on emergency preparedness packages. Perhaps it is possible to consider such factors in future planning.

Examples I found in emergency preparedness packages:

  1. Serbian-style rice and meat: Rice and meat are generally easy to digest, but depending on the spices and preparation, the dish could cause digestive problems.
  2. Currywurst: Currywurst is often fatty and heavily spiced, which could stimulate digestion. The spices in Currywurst could interact with certain medications and alter their effects.
  3. Shashlik pan: Shashlik often consists of fatty meat and bell peppers, which can cause digestive issues.
  4. Kassler with sauerkraut: Sauerkraut is fermented and can have a laxative effect.
  5. Gyros with rice: Gyros is heavily spiced and fatty, which can stimulate digestion.
  6. Cevapcici with rice: Cevapcici are spiced meat rolls that can stimulate digestion due to the spices and fat content.
  7. Pea soup with bacon: Peas are high in fiber and can have a laxative effect. The bacon is also high in fat.
  8. Goulash soup: A rich and spiced soup that can be difficult to digest due to the spices and fat.
  9. Porridge with apple and cranberries: Porridge and fruits are high in fiber and can have a laxative effect.

Many people, especially those who are weakened and vulnerable, take iron supplements to combat iron deficiency. Foods containing wheat bran, soy, phytate, and phosphate (eggs) could potentially be problematic.

Many high-fiber and spiced dishes might also increase thirst. In a disaster situation where drinking water may be scarce, this is another important aspect to keep in mind.

Please be so kind as to increasingly incorporate allergens and intolerances into your disaster preparedness package planning, so that in the end, everyone is truly considered, at least as far as possible. Thank you very much!
