Protect one of your most precious senses - YOUR eyes - They too need a soothing, holistic training. They are not only our connection to the external world but also a vital link to our soul.
The increase in myopia among children is alarming. It is expected that the global incidence of myopia will exceed 740 million cases by 2050. An incredible number that should make us pause for a moment.
Of course, regular eye examinations are advisable, and parents should be vigilant for early symptoms such as headaches and vision problems. However, EACH of us must and should also take preventive measures ourselves.
My personal (prevention) tips
We are under a misconception if we think that our vision problems can only be corrected with visual aids or laser treatments. We can also take conscious, active steps ourselves.
You are probably wondering how, right?
- Maintain a healthy balance between relaxation and movement (even a relaxed neck and shoulder muscles improve the blood circulation in our eyes) because our vision also fluctuates with our own physical condition.
- A varied and healthy diet for vital eyes (Vitamin A to prevent night blindness, Vitamin B1: supports the function of the eye muscles, Vitamin B6: for emotional balance, Vitamin B2: supports the “nutrition” of your eye lens and prevents light sensitivities, Vitamin C: an important and strong antioxidant to protect body cells from free radicals, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, calcium is also important for our eye health and reduces the risk of myopia)
- As much natural light as possible (artificial light in enclosed spaces gives our eyes little of the necessary and important energy to see well) / Avoid fluorescent lights; if optimal daylight is not available, use daylight lamps, full-spectrum lighting, or Biolux lamps for support.
- Physical and psychological balance.
- Relaxed breathing (this can significantly improve our vision) – place your hands gently on your child's back and solar plexus, and practice relaxed breathing – Ensure that your child is not holding their breath, breathing too shallowly, or too tensely while reading, as this can impede the body's energy flow and affect clear vision.
- Holistic eye training (train your sensory perception, eye mobility, and attention) – remember, any physical movement also brings movement to our eyes, which can improve vision. Occasionally take your glasses off to give your eyes "free" space for necessary and required movement and more natural light.
- Eye relaxation: frequently close your eyes consciously and blink regularly to keep the cornea moist. Don't forget screen work (two-dimensional viewing on the phone, tablet, or computer, concentrated work, a distance of 50 centimeters, not blinking enough) is hard work for our eyes.
There are many exercises to counteract this problem preventively. Eye tapping massages, shoulder-neck relaxations, hearty yawning to relax the facial, eye, and jaw muscles, occasionally taking off glasses and standing up from the phone and desk, stretching and extending in front of the screen, looking out the window into the distance (absorbing contrasts and perceptions), drinking enough, near-far viewing, palming, and much more.
