We should all be aware of the problem of overcrowded emergency departments (as a dramatic global issue). Patients avoid emergency departments due to long waiting times. Some leave the emergency department after waiting for hours without receiving treatment. The overload of emergency staff leads to dangerous overcrowding, which can jeopardize patient safety. Resources in emergency departments are limited, leading to inadequate medical care. Primary care is often underfunded and poorly equipped. Many patients have difficulty getting timely appointments with general practitioners and specialists, and therefore turn directly to emergency departments. There is a lack of modern technology that could improve the efficiency and accuracy of medical care. The growing number of elderly people leads to a higher demand for medical care. Chronic diseases (Long Covid / ME/CFS) often require frequent hospitalizations, which further burden the healthcare system. Social inequalities lead to different health standards and make access to medical care difficult for certain population groups.
Should we give up and remain idle for this reason?
Absolutely not! We will actively contribute to making our society more resilient and robust, thereby helping to alleviate the difficult situation of overcrowded emergency departments to some extent.
